the Great Pumpkin joins Team OinK for weekend slaughter

team OinK picked up a new member, Pumpkin Head (PH). you may recall i hunted with him before, brother suss. his credentials as a world champion bench rest shooter afforded him a trial position as an associate member.

we got on the first herd easily enough, but the wind wasn’t consistent. PH said one threw his head up like it winded us and two others trotted off a bit, so i went right into count down mode. i was in the middle so i picked out a pig towards the center. he didn’t give me a good shot, but it was good enough to slow him down for easy follow-ups. i really need to put a rubber band on my focus ring. it’s so loose it slips out of focus on the first shot. fortunately, i’m used to having blurred vision late at night, so it looked normal enough for me to keep on rolling.

they were supposed to run right, but most went left. by the time i circled around PH they were safely in the no shooting zone. one hog out of an entire herd is not indicative of team OinK. an emergency board meeting was called to order for the sole business of deciding if the new member would even be allowed to handle a weapon for the rest of the hunt. OinK is very demanding and was ready to rip out PH’s spinal column, but i was successful in pleading his case for a second chance.

i had a plan to put PH in a position to redeem himself and do something i could brag on him about. on the next hog i placed him in charge of the countdown. holy crap. i thought OinK was going to rip MY spine out. PH started off ‘threee.....’ (10 second pause), i was already thinking wth??? ‘twoooooo.........’. i almost dreaded the one count. waaaaay too much time between counts means too much margin of error for firing at the same time. at ‘one’ i waited longer than i thought the others would, and i finally fired. turns out i still fired first. oops. lesson learned... don’t send a Pumpkin Head to do dj’s job.

finally another herd opportunity came up. no chances this time. we stuck PH at the end of the line. OinK and i had to make up for lost pork. i’m not even sure if PH fired, but if he did i highly doubt he hit anything. he might have some video next week, so we’ll see then. no hogs got around my end, and i know OinK took out the middle section. if any got away, PH let them slip out the back.

we tried to sneak up on this hog, but he ran off several times, covering a lot of ground. then we would race after him and he would stop. it was a strange hunt, so when we finally caught him on the edge of the property we didn't take any chances and blasted away. in our haste, neither PH nor i remembered to activate the video. he was only wounded so OinK went up to him and stabbed him in the eye.

we went back to the group kill, and i busied myself rounding up the bodies when out of nowhere, the babies appeared and were all huddled up. OinK was entertaining himself by pulling the heads off the bigger ones and steam cleaning the skulls. i think he collects them. meanwhile, PH was huddled up in the truck with the heater on high sipping a mocha latte from a dc powered thermos. no problem, more for me.

i just got the first piglets picked up and was looking around for more when i saw another bunch. no time to organize a hunting party or even close in. i had a great vantage point while standing on the running board but they were still hard to see. some of the shots were low percentage, but if i see a white spot i’ve got a target. you can hear the brass hitting the top of the truck as i let ‘em rip. actually hit a few too.

we drove over to the kill site looking for more bodies and wouldn’t you know it. more babies. what the heck were they thinking? they ran behind the truck so i jumped out and quickly found their heat signatures. PH doesn’t really like to be left alone so OinK stayed in the truck with him and let me have all the fun. i’m not sure but i think i may have killed all of them.

we all got yotes too. i was confident in the shot, so i held off on the second shot thinking he would topple over any moment. he finally dropped to a second lucky shot just before getting away.

sounds like a plan, cept they're the ones with all the hunting spots. why do i feel like i'm about to get squeezed out?

thermal is the zeus 640, 3-24x, 30hz. i think the heat waves from the can start to interfere with the picture after... ahem... after a few shots ;)
it was also humid. i never seemed to be able to focus clearly the whole night. i should jot down the settings for high humidity and see if it helps.

i noticed the explosion on that pig's noggin as i was about to shoot. it was so cool it distracted me for a moment. here are a couple in slo mo.

What the first video lacked in quantity was made up for in quality. Nice set of dentures on that one! Heck of a night you guy's had. Buzzards and yotes are all probably sick of eating pork out there.

yea, i'm pretty sure you did it too. might want to have nasa double check the speed of those missiles. that was a helluva brain drain.

As an outsider looking in, team Oink looks like it's really falling apart. Lack of leadership, fractures in all systems and procedures, nepotism, favoritism, various schisms....and too many other "isms" to list. Sad really. I see team Oink merch sales bottoming out, public appearance cancelations, and maybe even public backlash leading to really desperate media stunts and in the end they're all spit out the bottom of the porn industry. Bottom line......sell team Oink for 2017.
