My lease in trinity always has pigs. Only time their numbers dwindle is a few months after deer season closes. But it seems no matter where you hunt in TX there are pigs, just a matter of how much pressure they get year around.

OK, that is about what it is here, we pay $650 and those around us 750-1000, small deer. In Al where some trophy's are it is closer to $1500+

I hate WMA regs, do I read it right, no night hunting on WMA"S, I thought they had a feral hog problem...
Yes, that is why I have opted out of not buying the WMA permit and looking elsewhere. Just ran into BRD (Big Red Dog) at 10 Ring today looking for some Unique powder so I checked and Caldwell is half an hour closer to Cypress than is the Davy Crockett National Forest which is the closest to permit night hunting without having permission to hunt on private property. (P.S., Harris Co. now mandates written permission in hand or click-click and go to jail for criminal trespass and if convicted, loss of your CHL as I understand it. If I can locate somewhere we can hunt with owner permission at night and with bait, I will post it on this board within 30 seconds.

Well Wife will be in Houston talking to her kids Haloween for a week or so to visit the Grandson. So that is good and out time is compressed a bit maybe looking at 3-6 mos intead of 6-12mos.

Smaller town cheaper to live in, less crime, a Walmart, cheaper ins(I know in FL the further from the coast the cheaper all ins is. Not a high dollar area, rural ok, probably am stuck an hour to 1 1/2 hr from Houston, maybe in a direction the City is not spreading to and good hunting opportunities with leases within an hour..

Will probably make 2 trips with all my stuff, a Uhaul truck and large trailer might work. Will leave all my blinds and stuff on lease here and start over again I would imagine. Any ideas would really help...Thanks

Look into El Campo and the area surrounding it. My brother's in-laws live in the area I can ask them where to look if you want.

There are lots of areas that meet your requirements. It mostly depends on which part of the state you want quicker access to and look in that direction. Livingston to the northeast, Huntsville/Madisonville to the north. Just draw a circle around Houston out to 1 1/2 hours away and start from there.

That is what I did, just never been to any of the places, Alvin, Conroe, Liberty, yeah and the El Campo area.

Beaumont is a strong hunting/fishing arena; south to Sabine Lake for saltwater fishing and North to Sam Rayburn for freshwater. There are a number of really awesome leases but still a waiting line on some of the better. If you are going to use Houston as a hub you have to consider the traffic in with your time. As far as traffic goes it is better to live outside of Houston, work outside of Houston, hunt outside of Houston, drive outside of Houston, and shop outside of Houston. Other than that, Houston is just fine.

Yeah that is what I intend to do, Just use H for mama seeing the Grandson and the VA, I could care less going there. As far as I know there are no bases close as we get base privileges. Fishing not really my forte, more of a hunter and more hogs than deer.

My kid brother belongs to a lease group in Newton County. He's paying 950/yr. He is one of the few that lazily hunts deer in season but keeps his lease up in order to hunt hogs year round. Unfortunately, they aren't friendly to outsiders. He invited me and gave me one of his doe allotments a few years ago. I got one the first day and you would have thought I had shot and quartered Moses himself. They don't even like someone not on the lease to sit around the campfire. (It felt like I was about to get the Deliverance treatment.)

Is she going to the international quilt festival?

If she does we would like to buy her lunch inside the venue. MRS. BRD and I will be there.

Probably not as she did not know of it and would most likely get lost trying to find it...Very nice offer and thank you for inviting her!

Since Mama is going to Pearland the 31st, she will look for a place there or Alvin to at least get us in for a year, then be closer to look around for a better place after there. I should be over in the next 2 mos to look should she not find anything.

Already planning on selling all my lease stuff here instead of hauling it, thinning down the house, we are in 2500sq feet now and another 2500 covered and screened back porch so have lots of thinning to do. Just the 2 of us so will be down sizing to 1500-1800 or so, still want 3 bdrm and a double garage. NO pool damn it, tired of maintaining it!
