I went out Thursday night solo again. I walked the property where I have been having recent luck. I checked my feeder and the oat fields first but there was nothing happening. Earlier in the day I had baited my sour corn holes in the back of the ranch but wasn't confident they'd be there since myself and 3 kiddos left a lot of scent walking around. Typically the hogs will hit the area the 2nd night after I bait. since the North breeze was perfect I walked the 1.5 miles to the back and I'm glad I did. I saw one black pig from a few hundred yards away. By the time I got closer I saw a whole sounder coming out to play. The moon was extremely bright so I picked a route where I could keep some large elms between me and the pigs. The stalk was on. Once I came around the trees I saw a large shape off away from the sounder, a biggun for sure. I got to my chosen shooting position and the boar was around 90 yards away, the sounder 50.
After the 1st shot I hesitated because I wanted to make dang sure the boar was down. He is my largest boar ever, around 287lbs with good cutters too. I thought he was the werewolf I caught on the trail cam last week but after comparing photos it appears the beast is still on the loose. Awesome to finally catch a group in the open with thermal!
