I already had several spots baited from the night before and knew hogs would be there eventually. well they were there all right. caught up to two herds, but the gun still has a jamming problem and I only got off two shots in each group. guess I’m going to have to break out the spare upper and see if it’s the ammo or the gun. I sure hope I don’t have to get a new 308… hehehe

Dang, nice percentage there! Nice hogs too!

Good shooting

Good hogs down ... hope the gun stuff gets fixed soon and u can down more hogs!

hunting seems to be good right now, so i'm going out again tonight. i'll go with some black hills ammo.... but taking the 223 for backup.

what kind of gun problems? we have Smiths on here to help.

do you have any bouncers on here to handle the likes of scrambler??

ok, since you asked... on to the real problem.

have fired over 1,000 rounds of remanufactured ammo from once fired R-P or lake city with a few others like federal. they were seated to about 2.80 and chronoed at 2465 with 168gr amax. rifle is dpms 16” with suppressor, adj gas blk, sprinco orange spring and heavy buffer. pmag and rifle are clean… chamber, throat and barrel.

my reloads were resized with redding fl s type with shoulder bumped 5 thousandths. neck bushing 334 which was 3 thousandths smaller than my necks and holds bullets fine under recoil. cci 200 primer, 43.5 varget, oal 2.81ish. pretty close to magazine length. this gave me about the same velocity as the remanufactured stuff.

in the dark I can’t really tell what happened. i’m just trying to drop the mag, clear the jam and reload as quickly as possible. a couple times I gave up and just went back to the truck to find either..

1. empty case stuck in ejection port

2. live round stuck in chamber so hard I had to use the jaws of life on my charging handle

3. a live round halfway out of the mag and into the chamber sitting at 45 degrees laughing at me

I think the pic is from #2. that is a raised burr at the end of the scratch. after i cleared the jam, I must have slammed the bolt on what I thought was the next round, ummm maybe i hammered the case so hard with the bolt the round bent. apparently it wasn’t quite ready to feed the rest of the way.

empty cases land at 2:00

i did noticed a very slight ridge on the outside of the mouth. i didn't deburr mouths inside or out. case length is under max.

Well done,,now lets see what the guys have to say, I would try but don't want to confuse the issue. and you said this is a newer occurrence after having no problem in the past?

yes, this is only with my recent reloads. i'm thinking i may still be a little hot (2:00 ejection) and will probably push the bullets in to 2.80.

i'll try factory ammo tonight.

thanks,
dj

yeah definitely try factory loads ... ejecting @ 2:00 usually indicates over gas issue. I'm not an expert though and it seems like you have the right setup, adj gas block, upgraded springs and buffer.

That was my first thought, this batch of reloads and too hot or sizing issues, I am betting other than the adj gas maybe being off for this batch the rifle is fine.

Maybe dirty adj. gas block? When was the last time that was cleaned? Just my thought. Hope you get it figured out. I would look at the GB. BANG BANG!!

When I had the same issue with my 6.8 after doing everything else, it was the bolt...it was a sloppy fit grabbing the case, some were (less bad) than others depending on brand of ammo.

Are you using a brass catcher? I've had some crazy malfunctions if my Caldwell rail mount brass catcher is not just right? And by just right, I mean to include whether the basket is deformed, bent, or otherwise damaged from hunting usage like mine are.

Just a thought?

That reminds me, I need to get one of those good ones like lawman recommended.

While I'd love to make some juvenile attempts to belittle DJ for having problems with his loads, I've had the same issue with a DPMS LR .308 of mine. I'll just wait for another occasion to make fun of him!

I have the same issues as DJ. One guy I spoke to about the DPMS stated that the issue seemed to resolve itself using 180g bullets. I've not tested that idea so I've got no idea if that is the solution. I need to take it to the gunsmith for a look over.
