185 yard coyote, a bit beyond SiOnyx capabilities.

When the hunt gives you a coyote, you hunt the coyote. A coyote was not ideal for my testing of the SiOnyx day/night camera. I was hoping more for capabilities and came away with some limitations. Called in a coyote to a position down wind of me and when it presented a good shot at a distance where I felt I could make the shot, I took it. The brownish coyote in the tannish field as seen under no moon and IR light managed to blend in and hide pretty well from the SiOnyx camera (1x native magnification) at 185 yards, but I am not surprised. I think had it been a 150 lb black boar, it would have shown up pretty well, but I didn't have a boar, I had a coyote. So the SiOnyx mostly just captured some eye shine at that distance.

More testing to come...

Is the aim of their marketing to simply provide color image video at night, or, is there more to their approach than that? Inktristink. Nice shooting too.

Good shot on the coyote! One more down.

I am not sure of their company history, but their big marketing angle is color night vision. From what I am seeing, it is color low light, particularly when supplemented by various sources of light. So a lot of their videos show cityscapes and such of night activities and so they seem to have a lot of sources of illumination. It looks really good for that. It looks really good at dawn and dusk. When it is really dark, not so much. Also, use of the IR illuminator drowns out any potential for color.
