Drones, not just for .gov surveillance anymore

This afternoon after I got the yard cleaned up and got rid of some of the stuff the "EX" left here I was perusing another site and saw that there was a camera that will mount under one of these drones that feeds live IR back to the controller. Think I saved the link for the camera, but wonder if anyone here would possibly use it for scouting at night.
..of course when I go to look the link isn't there!
I'll see if I can find it.
I believe it was just for the camera and you can mount it on any drone with a gimble mount. Was a pretty trick set up to be hones as the demo video showed split screen with visible/IR and for "predator control ie Bacon" it might be worth looking into.

Here's a good how-to for the learning process.

I went over to a parking lot this morning because there was no wind. What a difference, could hover there on spot and did some practicing. Going to the left is not real accurate because the front left leg is angled from damage but other than that it seemed much easier. Also seemed much less responsive when it got high up.Would still get away from me a bit.

Higher altitudes have less dense air therefore less lift. It makes controllability less rrsponsive. Just trying to give you an excuse, because in reality you can't get it high enough for this to have an effect on your quad copter.

but yes, we all need some excuses now and again!

Usually I find as it gets higher since its also getting smaller and harder to see it make small changes.
Keep up the practice!!

Yea, but height is relative to the size of the object. So it was really like a half mile high because it is so small. Kind of like a dog being 49 when they are 7 right?

Should fly "more gooder" a ways off the deck, cleaner air, losing ground effect.

I don't think you can appreciate the skills there until you try it yourself. Very impressive and very fun to watch. Your orientation, does it change on your controller when you turn towards you? You understand what I mean?

I just don't know, I want to start w a camera and screen or goggles but know that is not the way to go if you have never flown. Trying to find a local flyer/builder to mentor me.

Frank, between you and me I would just get a cheap small one. I did on the advice of Oso Grande and it was definitely the right thing to do for me. You will crash and crash often, it's better to learn on something made for abuse and less expensive to fix. Plus, you may not even enjoy it.

oh I know that is the way to go, I am trying to find an operator here to map the lease and scout for me instead of buying anything. For me personally that would be better. I will get one like yours as OSO suggested if I want to try it at all.

Thanks! My orientation doesn't change. What you're referring to is really mostly useful when you're flying the quad line of sight and it's far enough away that its hard to tell which direction it's facing. We are flying square/rectangular objects where it is VERY easy to lose track of its orientation.

Thats why I fly it best through the goggles, forward is ALWAYS forward, right is always right, etc. It brings its own challenges but for me by far it is easier to fly FPV than LOS. However like with most things, you have to learn to walk before you run and getting comfortable hovering around in front of you builds vital skills.

Goggles are the way to go if you want to fly the way I do. I don't know anyone who flies around like that who uses a screen. The screens are more used with the quads that have a GPS position hold where you can effectively park the quad and then use the screen to look around.

I've watched more than a few guys jump into something expensive to learn on and got put off by the early and constant repairs when they didn't yet have the basics down. The little ladybirds and hubsan's are really perfect for cutting your teeth on. They won't break the bank when they crash.
