Well, more like to the side of it. Actually, I had no idea the buck was there. I saw the doe and decided to fill another tag, so I ran into the house and grabbed my rifle and vest. Made a 200 yard duck walk around the back of the hay barn and eased over the top of a round bale.
I was just about to shoot her and I did a quick check of the surrounding, as I do when I'm hunting with a thermal (this was 1445 in the afternoon however). Twenty feet to her right was this guy, so I swung over and quickly planted a 165gr Nosler Ballistic Tip into his lungs at about 130 yards. He ran 70 more yards away and piled up.
Not much else to say about him. There are two larger ones that routinely patrol the ranch, but they never come out until at least midnight, so they are a no-go. I suppose that is why they are so large.
