    Surprise!!

    Good hog down!

    Number 50

This dude just interrupted my supper. Of interesting note. He measured 43", and I got a full pass through at about 60 yards with a 64gr .223 Speer Gold Dot. He was quartered toward me. The bullet entered center neck and exited right at the front shoulder. He didn't do anything but drop and...

Frontal Running Shots Are Usually Exciting...

I had one very similar when I started thermal hunting. As he rounded third and came straight at me (I had hit him at least three times broadside at that point) I managed to put four quick rounds into him from 50-25 yards. He was maybe 200 lbs, but had some pretty darn good cutters on him...

    Conducting Interviews for Hog Research

Back to LSA's MPCE, Ammo Testing, and More Hogs

I tend to agree, but only from what I've seen on the interwebs from others. The Fusion makes a dandy traditional style (single well-placed shot) hunting bullet, but there appear to be better options for less than ideal shot placement on runners. I am still going to see if perhaps the 90gr Gold...

Another 6, including one really bad off sow

I'm in the same boat. Had one sow left and 19-20 piglets when I killed her. Been trying to kill the shoats now...its really crazy seeing how much they've grown in just two months! I think I have 8-9 left now.

Near Venator, Two-fer, and Two More

I still have a serious shoat problem at the house. I was lucky to catch some of them last night, but not lucky in that they were deep in cattle and had a quick escape route. The boar was taken on a friend's property.

Another 6, including one really bad off sow

That initial boar kill was definitely an excellent example of shooting.

    4th of July Giant Sow

So I picked up a new property...500 acres with probably 100 acres of damage. The owner I guess charges big bucks to lease it out during deer season, so he was more worried about me killing a deer than any of his cattle...WOW. Anyways, he didn't cut most of the meadows due to damage, and the...

    Repair time

Uh p Uh-oh. I got a brand new XP50 a month ago that was DOA with an internal battery issue. They've had it for two weeks now and I've never heard from them. Heard rumor that there are no replacement units available right now, so it might be a while...but I'm hoping in your case that you...

    Daylight coyote

I run Lim-Flex here, and what you described has happened with the last two coyotes I've shot. I was moving hay this winter and jumped a coyote out of the creek bed when I got ~15 yards with the tractor...had all the cows in tow after the hay. All 38 cows from that pasture went after that...

    Daylight coyote

Yep. Called in only one that I didn't already have eyes on. This place here is about 25 percent (densely) wooded, so still a lot of room for movement and escape. I generally give the coyotes a break until calving season (Feb/Mar and Sep/Oct here). During those months everything around the...

6 Hogs Down from Honey Hole, Reductionist Hunting Pattern

My place seems to be good for 20-25 hogs per year, but we don't have quite the problem that the more open areas do. As of right now, I've removed 25 from here this year so far. Unfortunately there are about 10 shoats that are going to be breeding age in a few months, and so it looks like next...

    Ok, need advice

First, glad you got one man! Second, sometimes it just is luck. I was real lucky last time. Third, if I'm not sure which way they'll go, I shoot a pig in the middle. Should give me at least one more to shoot at. Fourth, man you have to be a bit faster on that trigger sometimes for those...

    Daylight coyote

Always nice to put one down. I've finally noticed a decrease in sightings on my place. Only took killing almost 40 of them in an 18 month period to do it. They'll be back soon enough though.
