After having several "dead" hogs run off recently I finally got one to stick around.
I've been seeing a few hogs in the pasture near my house but never got a chance at one. Yesterday evening I mowed several acres of the pasture and used the frontend loader to scrape the weeds off in one location. Then I put down some corn and ranged the distance to several likely places to shoot from. Before going to bed I checked the pasture with my PVS-14 and saw what I think was a decent size boar. Well, I got set up and took the shot from 175 yds, and you guessed it, another dead hog ran off.
I went in and fixed a bedtime snack and then went out to take another look. I was surprised to see another single hog but by the time I got my gear it was gone. I decided to take a look around the pasture and a few minutes later saw a small group of about five or six. I got the wind in my favor and stalked to within about 60 yards. I was trying to get a clear shot at the largest one when it walked off behind some brush, so I got a bead on another one. I took the shot and this time it dropped in it's tracks and stayed there. It was a small boar about 100 lbs or so. This afternoon I re-corned the pasture and we'll see what happens.
