    Howdy from Smithville

Welcome from podunk Madisonville or as everyone knows it as BUCEES at IH45 142 exit. Things a little slow here too but can blast off at any time.

    Not much activity lately

Been seeing lots of hogs feeding in pastures along county roads just before sunrise. I have a couple hundred acres in Madison county that they have not rooted up like they usually do. Wet spring and plenty of bahia grass to graze on is my guess. Not complaining, its expensive repairing my hay...

    Dealing with cattle

I run cattle on all my pastures and found out early that the feeder must be isolated from them or your corn will be eaten and the feeder may possibly be destroyed. Barbed wire is the simplest solution with 3 or 4 strands usually sufficient. Remember, you are going to have to shoot through this...

    SUS Venator still active?

Dropped a pretty good one a few days ago. The rifle is my Weatherby .243 that will put three through the same ragged hole at 100 yards. Notice the protective plastic wrap still on the Academy Game Winner scale. That was a Christmas present for the wife when her first hog was bigger than this 264...

A little help from my friends ....

An old dog here trying to learn a new trick. So, Friday evening I'm in my hog stand over looking one of my feeders. Took my Weatherby .243 that had only shot paper with but, since at 100 yards a 3 shot group leaves one hole, I figure shot placement will not be a problem. About 8:00, a pair of...

Hog wild on power pole rub

Just a question because there are so many products out there competing for the dollar, are you pretty sure this attraction was due to the Hog Wild or was this pole already in use because of the creosote or whatever other preservative was already on it? I have tried a few attractants as well as...

    Hog attractant review

The following has been my experience, don't mean to discourage anyone from trying a product BUT: Tried the Pig Out Wild Beast Attractant because the picture on the jug caught my attention and I had a few dollars left on an Academy gift card. I soaked a rag in the concoction and hung it from the...

    Poor boy set up

I use the same Litom brand lights on two of my feeder sets. So far working great, white light but the pigs don't seem to mind. Mine are mounted about 6' high and about 15' from feeder. Set for continuous low light, then automatically go to bright light when motion is detected. Makes for better...

    Cold streak gets embarrassing!

Finally got them coming to 1st feeder about 7:30 pm, killed one, they went back to 3:00 am. They're pretty safe from me at 3:00 am. Set up 2nd feeder about 1 mile from 1st, after about a week got BIG pigs feeding at 6:30 pm. I'm gonna whack one pretty soon, see if they change their habits. Hope...

3rd hog with Snares this week

OK, I'm interested, its been 40+ years since I trapped coons in the early 70's and I've never used a snare. Hogs are getting ahead of me here. I have a 30+ acre hay meadow and half of it is rooted up. Could you share a little info on snares such as what size or type to use for hogs? They have...

    New Year

Well, deer seasons over, my uncles, cousins, brothers and nephews are out of the woods. Now I get my pasture back for the rest of the year. Hogs are tearing up my hay meadow and everywhere else as well. I'm low budget, no NV or thermal, just illuminated scopes hunting feeders with motion sensor...

    Need hog bait advice

The old school recipes still work, corn, water, yeast and strawberry kool-aid. Pour in some milk for faster action. I keep a batch cooking all the time. Dig a small hole and bury a cup of this concoction, Porky will root a 5 gallon hole chasing it. Drill dozens of small holes in a 5 gallon...

    Hog Roll Barrel

Finally! After about a month they are rolling the barrel. I was beginning to think my hogs were descendants of Larry the cable guy and were too "challenged" to learn how. I had coated the side with everything from cat food to maple syrup and had about given up. Now it looks like an alien UFO...

    Youth Deer Rifle Review

There are sure to be many opinions on a first gun, so here's mine. I bought my wife a Ruger American Ranch in 300 blk about a year ago for about $380. This little gun is super accurate shooting sub MOA at 100 yards with Hornady 125 gr hollow points. It is a bolt gun so the safety issue of a...

Need to make a shield for a feeder to direct the throw

I use what us country boys know as a tow sack. These are burlap bags that you used to buy 50 lbs. cattle/horse feed in. Now they are either paper or plastic but you can still get the empty burlap bags at most feed stores. Only thing is they are now called country craft bags.

    Fav online ammo supplier?

I've not settled on one favorite yet. Just placed my first order with Ammo Liquidator. They have a pretty good selection of .223/5.56 hunting ammo. You can get FMJ anywhere but the hunting ammo can be a little more difficult to locate in stock. So I ordered 5 different boxes last Thursday...
