19 shots for four coyotes maybe five. Hunting a cattle ranch smoking hogs left and right when I spot what I thought was 3 coyotes circling a new born calf.
I can't shoot because more cow 's are behind them, so I get my call and set it up about 100 yards to the left in hopes of pulling them in.
This pasture is about 400-500 acres with some pretty steep hills, the ranch owner and myself were on the tallest one and had a great view. I knew there would possibly be some long shots so I grabbed my .308 loaded with some 135gr ammo I am testing.
Started the call and almost instantly another coyote comes up out of a ravine I took aim fired he yelps spins bites at his shoulder and then runs off like nothing happened.
Thinking I would see the other three coyotes headd for the hills I panned over to watch but no they were now coming into the call. As I was watching them come in the ranch owner fired and hit another coyote I never saw killing it with a 120gr sst. One of the there I was watching dissapered, but two were still coming. I took the front and RO took the back we fired mine dropped but was yelping and I thin got back up.
Still more coyotes are coming in even after all the shooting. This is where I dj'ed. Time after time I took aim and fired time and time again I missed. Cross hairs were perfect but the coyotes did not drop, a pair of them even let me shoot st the about 5 times before walking off.
Finally being totally DJ'ed I gave up and asked the R O how far his dog was from us. He said about thirty yards then the one you hit was about 100 more. Well his 30 yard dog was more like 130 yards and the one I hit and dropped was more like 230. We thought the others that did not run were about 200 yards, he'll no they were 400-500 yards out no wonder they were not running. The crazy thing is after reviewing the video I was hitting about a foot high over my cross hairs.
Wit our spirits dampened we went to the range for checking zero, expecting to be off we were both surprised to see the scope was dead on still neither one of us can explain how or why the rifle was hitting that high, that far out.
Sorry if this in jumbled I'll review it tomorrow I've been up since 6am Friday. Going to sleep now.
