A good method for beaver hunting

So I have now used this tactic several times and am pleased with how well it works. Simply put, you break open their dam so that it releases a goodly amount of water and lowers the pool level. The beaver will take note of this and attempt to repair it that evening. You wait for the beaver to come in to the damaged area and when they are on the dam is when they are moving the slowest or may even be stationary. The beaver is there to either inspect what has gone wrong with the dam or is working to repair it. That makes for the optimal time to shoot. So the tactic works to attract the beaver to a specific location and to slow down it movements.

Here is a video of this evening's hunt. The shot was just under 50 yards.

Yeah, I wish they would not come back, but at least now I have a good system that seems to work. When I gave up on trapping, I would just sit and watch the pool until I saw a beaver. That is about like waiting on hogs and since the beavers sometimes move up or down the creek or go out foraging, it could be hours before they would show up. Breaking open the dam seems to speed up the process quite a bit.

Indeed, the method is a natural, with their need to fix what is. It's a solid plan of attack.

One of my hunting partners secured a new spot that has a lot of beavers on it. I seen 8 in one little area at once. They are chewing down all the trees around a lake and the owner wants them gone. We shot 3 of them but did not recover any of them as they stayed out in the water. I could see what looked like a blood slick in the thermal coming from one of them as it floated. Others flopped around in the water before finally stopping.

Looked pretty darn close to that except much wider and the beaver was floating after being shot in the head from about 50 yards.
