Lately I've wanted a vest or shirt with muntiple well placed pockets for flashlight, a place for my scanner, a couple of mags, maybe gloves, knife, phone, etc. i like a big pocket to put the scanner in to keep it from banging around on the lanyard. I have a few chest rigs with molle poutches I could probably reconfigure, but I haven't looked at them in years and don't remember them being very comfy. Knowing me I bet they're configured to carry 18 mags for Red Dawn.....good call Taco. Is there anything out there maybe less tactical more hunting oriented that you guys are wearing? The 5.11 range vest looked promising but they discontinued it. Thanks.

Having all my S rolling around on the console, floor boards, and dropping it on the ground is getting old......after 2 years.

Find a bdu top and a little old lady with a sewing machine. should be enough material from the sleeves to make some nice pockets.

I am not sure they make a chest rig in a size that would fit my fat a--, but they do make a "battle belt" aka "war belt." A very comfortable option that carries enough, but not too much the way I have it set up. Plenty more could be added.

Many different battle or war belt options are available from surplus USGI to high end and expensive Crye or even custom belts. Fwiw, total cost of my belt set up is something like $100 including pistol holster and all. A guy on a budget could assemble a very workable belt for under $50 using USGI surplus gear and genaric molle pistol holster.

Most all war or battle belts can accommodate suspenders and I have them on mine. Crye suspenders I think, but surplus USGIs of the right style work too. The suspenders help with carrying weight, but mostly they prevent me from having to adjust the belt as what I'm wearing changes with the weather. I set my belt up to ride higher than my waist, the suspenders do help it stay put and not slide down.

My belt set up, which consist of a stiff webbing duty type belt inside the "war belt", has three rows of molle at the rear and narrows to two toward the front. I like to be able to hop on a kabota or in a truck without taking it off, so I leave the back clean.

Keep in mind that I shoot long guns lefty but pistols righty: Starting toward the rear and working forward, on the right I have a SERPA holster for my SIG P226 with Chrimson Trace IR laser grips which has a 22lr kit installed. The SERPA allows the suppressor to stay mounted if I want and keeps the SIG where it belongs no matter what I'm doing, crawling under or climbing fences, getting in and out of trucks, etc. Next is a small suppressor pouch then a small ~3"x3"x1" pouch for spare batteries. Then open space and the inner belt buckle, on the left, from front to rear is a roll up bag for my spotter. The roll up bag is canvas and quiet and the sort typically mounted toward the rear on war or battle belts to drop empty AR mags in. Next is a stacked two magazine pouch for a spare magazine for my AR, then a radio pouch with the flap cut off for a 20oz bottle of iced tea, soda, water, whatever.

I used a canteen pouch for my spotter until recently. It's advantage is top flap with a fastex buckle closure, but I like the deeper pouch better.

I will try to post a photo of me wearing my belt, but you can see a lot of different set ups on arfcom in a photo thread for ideas.

Yeah JPK let's see a pic. I have a tactical tailed padded molle belt but I remember it being kind of a pain driving with pouches on it.

I'll post them soon, I need to email them to myself and then post them to photobucket. Fat as my a-- is I can drive my Suburban or Jeep no issues, though the Jeep is a little tight. No issues on a side by side either.

Taco,

I have not forgotten, but I am having a world of trouble with Photobucket.

I can text or email photos to anyone who can post them.

I'd welcome any recommendations for an easy to use, reliable photo hosting services, Photobucket has gotten to more and more of a pita.

I use a cheap military weight bearing vest with molle loops. I just ordered some cheap pouches on line and set it up the way I wanted it. I believe I have 25 dollars in the whole rig. Not including whats in the pouches. lol

Imgur: The most awesome images on the Internet

Test 2 worked, so below are photos of my fat butt wearing my "war belt." On a skinnier guy the outer belt and molle would come around more to the front, but this works for me. Since I took the photos using a mirror, all images are reversed wrt to left/right.

Original set up with surplus canteen pouch for my spotter:

Front view pouch deployed, flap with Velcro deployed. I usually don't use the flap, the pouch is deep enough to keep my Pulsar 19A spotter secure.

Hope this helps.

That does help. I need to drag my padded belt out and get some suspenders.

I broke down and bought a D3CR from Haley Strategic. I got thru busting a large sounder of hogs one night and had to walk almost a mile back to the truck with only 2 rounds left in my rifle. So now i carry 4 extra mags instead of one. I have a small 10k mAh charger and a cable to charge the FLIR with if i need to along with Nitrile gloves, mechanix gloves, Leatherman, short piece of paracord, flashlight and one extra pistol mag in it. It is really comfortable and i can fold it in half when i take it off and put it in my backpack with my other hunting gear.

When i go hunting all i have to do is grab that and my rifle and im set.

Chestrigs

The mandrake camo works pretty good with woodland camo for coyote hunting and deer hunting also.

Running out of ammo sucks, but a 400% increase tells me your an optimist!

Just a warning to guys with a gut, like me, any rig with gear in front is a problem when you carry your AR in front. I tried wearing my belt set up buckle to the rear to gain front molle real estate, but had to move everything to the sides.

MOLLE is the way to go. And vest helps distribute the weight better then a belt +suspenders.

I have been using a plate type carrier for a couple years now and it works, but want something different now. What I don't like about the carrier type rig is it gets in the way, however everything is easy to see at night and easy accessible.

Now I am looking into High Speed Gear Battle Belts, here is a video of what I am looking at. I also like HSG Taco's I have personally seen and held their products, they are very well made well thought out.

For my pistol holster I already have a Safriland ALS/SLS Duty Holster which is has been awesome. They are expensive but well worth the money in my opinion. Plus I integrated their Quick Locking System for easy mounting and dis-mounting of the holster with the gun still attached. Instead of my explaining the applications here is a video. FYI you can find their holster much cheaper on other sites besides Safarilands site.

As usual Eric @ Blackstone Arms turned me on to some nice kit - this time it was US Grunt Gear belt and although pricey I've been well pleased. I'm outta pocket now but will try to post up details of my setup soon. Here's a link....
