I got access to a small place West of my house. I have cleared their place of pigs for now so they invited me to hunt anything else i want to! They have a flocks of dove and the Wichita River borders there place. No grain fields in the area though. Just bermuda grass and costal fields.

Didn't get to go out on the 1st. But have a big weekend planned this weekend. And a group of us reserved a field that was kept closed on opening weekend. Hope that pays off.

Those of you that went or are planning to go to the Rio Grande Valley to dove hunt. I worked some of our public lands this past weekend and most of our hunters were lucky to get a few white-winged dove. Everyone had more than enough opportunity at mourning dove. From the reports I heard from some of our other areas, the birds are flying in HUGE flocks closer to Brownsville.

Other reports I have heard over South Texas are similar with the exception of the Uvalde and San Antonio areas having a large number of birds, but these are probably resident doves and not birds coming in from the North.

Argentina has the best dove hunting or the worst investation of them. They destroy so much crops, etc and are huge problem....way worst than our hog problems

Do y'all dove hunt beyond the opening weekend?

I've got a pretty good group of buddies that I've hunted with for a long time, we try and hunt at least once during the week and for sure both days on the weekend for the entire dove season.

And we generally hunt at least 40 days of the 60 day waterfowl season.

I personally like 7 1/2 shot. My favorite dove load is Winchester AA "super sport".

When it's not too windy I like to use my 28 gauge otherwise I'm generally a 12 gauge automatic guy.

It's been too hot here for my dog.

I'm sure this is no big deal for guys from Texas since you're talking about whitewings, I've got a really good friend of mine that I was hunting with 15 or more years ago and we had a whitewing fly across the field. We both talked about it after the hunt was over no one killed it but we both saw it. We were both amazed that each other even noticed it at the same time.

I mainly hunt the first two weekends. Its a social even for me. Get to see friends I see maybe once twice a year. But I will normally go if invited to other hunts. Never used to see white wings this far north now they are common.

Hunt as much as I can for the whole season. There is a group out in West Texas that does a decent season pass on a lot of fields they lease. So I go with them. Usually do pretty good. I am going Saturday and bringing the boy with me.

Have fun! They were really flying the first week but have slowed down now until the northern birds get here.

Retrieved 15 dove out of 17 that I actually shot at. Don't know the shell count though, just past a box.

Before today I was 15/19.

Good shoot!!

I have shot a box of 20 ga shells. Dropped 4 birds, found 2 birds, 1 was badly shot, or goodly shot depending how you look at it. Nothing left to eat so I threw it in my hog trap. That night I got a picture of a fox carrying it past my trail camera. I guess that leaves me with one dove. But I gave that to a friend, so no doves really. Dove hunting.....priceless.

I was on fire today. I had only missed one all the way up into double digit dove count. Then I blew it and missed not one, but two more before reaching the limit.

No new records for me today..... Perhaps tomorrow?
