Brutus

"runnin' with sasquatch"
I've been after "Brutus" for a couple of years. I have found him a couple of times in the woods, but he would blast out of a shot in a hurry. He seldom came to the feeder, usually late at night/early morning when it was still dark. Very few times I have captured him on camera during the day. The last couple of weeks he was coming in pretty steady around 10-12pm. So I went for him Saturday evening at the feeder site. There are no roads out to this feeder and it is a 3 mile ride through mesquite trees that I carved out a trail for my ATV. I get there around 7pm get everything ready and wait. There was no moon so it was dark. Once it gets dark I move from one field blind, a mesquite tree, up to one that is closer, 25 yards from the feeder. Now I can only see using the thermal and it is hard on the eye so I am only checking the feeder every 5 minutes or so. I just happen to catch him as he is behind the feeder just outside the fence sniffing the air. He chomps on some grass but walks away. One of those, should I have taken the shot? I thought no, I should wait for a better shot on him and then waited for other hogs to show up. I was going to wait until 11:15pm and then go to another place. Around 11pm I check with the thermal and there he is, on my side of the feeder, 15 yards away. He's nervous, he is still outside the feeder fence, but wants corn. He almost runs but starts walking towards me. He stops for a second and I fire. He bolts out of view of my scope and I can hear him running. I don't know where he is until he sprints past the tree I'm under. Holy ****, it was like a freight train at top speed going by. I thought did I miss? No way. I looked around, but it was so dark, scary, and I did not want to hang out with that beast around. I came back the next afternoon and the buzzards were everywhere. He was 50 feet from where I shot him. The buzzards had him chewed up but I took some pics. I got another hog that I shot and ran into a cattle tank and two piglets with one shot.08070038.JPG 08070051.JPG GOPR4802.JPG GOPR4789.JPG Brutus1.JPG Brutus.JPG Floater2.JPG GOPR4781.JPG GOPR4816.JPG

Death targets his quarry. Death prepares for battle... Death changes his drawers after the fight. Death smiles at the sign of the TBPS in full celebration with him.

'Dat's a big ol' boy !!! You ever catch up to that big sow you been waiting on? I'm surprised he didn't leave you a thermal trail of fresh blood to see after the shot. Nice kill!!

When that train ran by me I just thought I had missed, I mean he was moving and only was inches away from me. I thought it would be better to get the hell out of there and let the buzzards find him the next day. The ghost is still out there, showing up in the background of some pictures. She travels with a sounder I call the "Large Marge Squad" huge fat sows with dozens of piglets.

That’s a big hog! Congratulations on that one. Don’t you hate it when they end up in the tank? But that’s a good bunch thinned out of the herd. Good shooting!

I’m shooting a little low with the thermal. It looks like I hit Brutus in the throat and not the neck. The “floater” I hit high on the front leg and the bullet went thru and broke the bone on his other front leg. I think he then ran in a three legged circle into the tank.

I shot one one time with my .30 M-1 carbine, which was all I had in the truck. Broad daylight and he just kept standing there looking at me. He kinda did the same thing- made a big circle then ran full speed into my stock tank. Good thing I had one of my step sons with me. He did the “fetching” for me.

I cut a long branch and then cut a smaller branch off that to form a hook to pull it out. This is either the Ghost or her sister with Brutus and the "Large Marge Squad". To me the coloring seems off. This was around a month ago, the camera dates reset when the batteries went dead.01080970.JPG 01080973.JPG
