There's a boar amongst us

A good friend took me out to his hunting lease for my birthday. Never dreamed I'd have a 240 pound surprise waiting for me there. We sat in separate stands about 500 yards from each other. He could watch down into a valley and I sat at the south end of it. Around 9:30 pm he called me on the walkie-talkie to say he had spotted this boar way off in the distance but headed my direction. Sure enough I picked him up and decided to let him walk in as close as possible to the feeder. Then the cows became a problem! I hope the land owner never sees this because he will be thinking I shot a little too close to his cows. Maybe, but after 20 minutes my patience had given out. The first video is interesting to just watch the boar's interaction with the cattle. The second video is of the kill shot after a long wait. This was the only hog we saw all night but it was a great time and great hunt!

Well... Happy Boipday! Congrats on a nice boar. Yeah... folks could definitely be a bit nervous about the proximity to valued livestock with that one. Glad it had a happy ending for all (but Jester).

Nice hog down! I think you’re right about the landowner.

I nornally do not sweep anything with my crosshair that is not a potential target. My thermal has a big enough field of view that I can keep the crosshairs up in the air and still keep and eye on cows, goats, domestic dogs, etc.
When the shot is extremely clear,I simply lower the crosshair onto the animal. --- pruhdlr

You know, if you don't shoot them in the brain, you can often prolong your hunt and search more for the same hog somewhere in the deep brush....

:D

And then sometimes you even get to shoot 'em again!

Done that more times than I like to remember! Not intentionally either!

Sometimes working my way to an acceptable angle in cattle is the hardest part. I'm glad it ended well, but replacement heifers can be expensive!
