I had so much fun last week that I went back out again Sunday night. Actually, rain was forecast for the first four days of this week and I wanted to get a hunt in before it got too soggy. I had another boar coming to the feeder after I took out the big boy last week, so I was hopeful that I would get another shot at one this week. I brought a suppressed Browning Buckmark .22 with me this hunt just in case the Raccoons tried to raid the feeder. Sure enough, one showed up around 1930 and after carefully scanning the area to make sure I wouldn’t be accidentally spooking a hog I took aim at the area where the coon was while I held a flashlight in my other hand. I could clearly see the coons eyes, so doing my best to aim with minimal view of the sights, I fired the first shot. LOL It was like I shot a muzzle loader with all the smoke and the reflection of the white light off the smoke. I had to look through my thermal to find the coon again. He had moved about ten feet to my left, but I had to reposition to another window because of the corner post. I fired again and he started growling at me and doing the spin of death. He managed to drag himself off into the dense swampy area, but by the amount of blood he left behind, he won’t be seeing the sunrise. About an hour later I picked up the boar moving through the woods toward the feeder. I’ll pick up the rest in the video.
Again, using the same 6.8 rifle with an IRD Hunter MK II 35mm. The first round (and the only one that connected) was a Federal 115 gr Fusion that went through and through. The boar taped in at 150#.
The first shot was the only one that connected, which doesn’t say much for my shooting ability, but he was nice enough to die only 10 feet from a road that I could get to. The shot entered a little behind and low from what I wanted, but was still effective. The entry wound was pretty impressive indicating rapid expansion directly below the surface of the skin and shield.
The bullet traveled across and down slightly and exited through the offside shoulder leaving about a 2” wound channel and even with the thick shield, still left a good bit of a blood trail.
Now if it would only stop raining and dry up a little, I may get to go try again.
