MK3 or REAP IR?

I put the rubber eye piece in my parts box before it fell off in the field and I lost it. Have a butler creek up there now. I mount mine farther forward. I haven't detected any cheek weld issues.

That looks like the normal height and your stock looks fine as well. Your just going to have to get used to it. Both my hunters fit that way, fully back on the rail and nose to charging handle. I threw the rubber eyepiece away and use a butler creek flip up cap

^^^^^^Wigwamitus you beat me to it:). What are you using for that camo on your scope? I’ve been looking for some tape or cloth to cover mine, it’s getting too many scratches when I sling it over my back.

Got my thermal!
First impressions...
1. The picture is amazing.
2. The rubber eye piece sucks. I moved the scope back as far as I can, and it's still too far forward to use the eye piece. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I can't get a comfortable cheek weld with it.
Congrats! I like the rubber eye piece. It keeps the light from the screen from giving away your position during a stalk.
I haven't had any issue with the scope position relative to my cheek weld/eye location. Maybe adjust the ocular lens? It will adjust the screen size when you have your face up near it. Otherwise, adjust your stock. Find a good compromise between those two and it may help?

Also, FWIW, I sold my ir hunter MKII and got the Reap. I like it better overall due to size, weight, and the d-loc mount. Fits in your hand as a monocular perfectly. It returns to zero within 3/4 of an inch at 100 yards imo. The turrets probably were a little better though. If only they both had an internal battery pack and internal recording...

Anyone know where I can download the drivers (I think that's what it's called)? I tried the included sd card on three computers and they all said it was blank.

Eye cup....

The scope sits to low on my ar rail. What are my options?

I use a releasable zip tie to anchor the eye cup. When IR Defense designed the original, I got ahold of one and was asked to do a review. HuntTxHogs purchased the other one of the pair. We had very similar experiences.

I ended up having a long phone conversation with one of the guys at IRD who was NOT very happy with my review. He probably wasn't any happier with HTX's, either. In the end, they did make several changes to the scopes for the current versions, but not the eyecup, which was my #2 complaint on the list.

#2 was my complaint about the eye cup.

It was interesting. I was told at the time that IRD went with the particular ocular setup because it is standard PVS-14 mil-spec gear and the eye cup was a well. Despite my contention that the PVS-14/eye cup combo was not designed to be rifle mounted and carried around in such a manner as being rifle mounted, the eye cup was prone to easily being knocked off. The gent at IRD basically told me that I didn't know what I was talking about, LOL. Years later, the same problem persists, but the Butler Creek cap and my zip tie method are both valid work arounds.

As for sitting low on the rail, that is true, it does. You can buy a riser for your rail. I would not go cheap on buying a riser for a scope, however. Buy a quality product. I think you can go as low as 3/8" and anywhere up from that.

BTW, the on/off switch is still a problem. I set it in my Jeep to take to the range. I got to the range and noticed it was on. I figured I left it on before I left. When I left the range, I double checked to make sure it was off. Got home, and it was on. If the switch was round with a knurled grip - I think that would be better.

My on off switch does the same thing. I once drove 3 hrs for a hunt and when I got there my batteries were dead. Every since then I disconnect the battery when ever I case the rifle or lay it in the back seat.

Wow! I find great comfort in this thread as I lost my eye cup the first time out with my Reap-IR. I was kind of pissed at myself, but good to know it really wasn’t me...

Eye cup design is Ok if you’re treating unit like a handheld or babying your weapon when mounted. However, slinging your weapon around on a hunt leaves no chance in hell for that eye cup to stay on. Such an easy fix, but seems like a designer/engineers pride got in the way.

Those aren't "drivers" ... the software on the card is an image viewer you can install on your PC. Then you can download the still images from your thermal and view them on the PC.

If your card is defective call Trijicon and get a new one. I've got several and I think I asked them at least once to send me one and they did.
