High Fence Ranch, Last Hog?

I have been hunting this place for a couple of years or so. It is 800+ acres of high fence hunting ranch that hogs got into at one point. I took a break from hunting there over part of the deer season because they had hunters coming in to hunt deer and exotics. Before that, I had gone several visits with seeing no hogs. In late January, the owner contacted me and said that he had been seeing two boars, one of which I killed in February.

In all, I think it took me about 8 visits and close to 30 hours to get this hog. Most of the ranch is wooded. It has some large upland meadows, but otherwise it is wooded with numerous canyons. Between waiting, hiking, calling, and baiting, this guy managed to elude me until finally waiting paid off last night. I set up to watch an open area with a large tank and the local woods around me....

Good shot through the woods! I had a boar on 2 of my cameras this morning. First one I’ve seen in about a week. Sometimes they just don’t want to cooperate. Bet the landowner is glad to see him gone.

That's almost a bitter-sweet moment. A feeling of a job well done, a happy land owner... but an end to some good opportunity on that tract. Would feel good to have the last one, be a solid kill, and a nice sized hog as well. Congrats. He must have a friend in need, somewhere. Is this the beaver pond spot as well?

I hunted beaver for the owner on a nearby hay property they have. So I may still be dealing with ESR some in the future. Hopefully, there are no more hogs, but I will miss getting to see the elk, fallow deer, oryx, etc.

Excellent job of eliminating the problem for now. Hogs being what they are, it will be tough keeping them out for good though.

Nice shot through the trees!
It'll be interesting to see if that was indeed the final hog. Of course, more might sneak in but we'll all be curious to learn what future developments occur.
